Town of Prescott 2018 Tax Increase still under debate

The Town of Prescott is planning a property tax increase in the 2018 budget but not everyone is on board.

During Committee of the Whole this week Treasurer Mathew Armstrong presented some updated details about the 2018 budget, including a planned 2.75% increase to property taxes. Mayor Brett Todd said he wasn’t comfortable with the 2.75% increase and would be happier if they could get it closer to 2%. Todd says a number of municipalities add a 1% percent increase to their capital tax and wonders if this is something Prescott might look into as well. He points out that people are more willing to accept tax increase when they know where it’s going and aren’t worried about it just disappearing into the administration.

He finished by saying he expects every penny to really count over the next few years.
