Another Grenville based manufacturing plant is closing.
Unifor has revealed that the Suva Division of Chemours Canada Company at the Maitland site will be shutting its doors. As a result 33 people are expected to lose their jobs. Unifor National President Jerry Dias says its terrible news for the community. According to Unifor Local 28-O the company has agreed to honour the collective bargaining agreement’s severance provisions.
The closure means production will cease on October 31st of this year and the wind down is expected to continue until December 31st, when most staff will have been let go. Dias adds that when good high-paying jobs disappear the community suffers.
