The Town of Prescott has found a discouraging trend when it comes to local tax collection.
During a presentation to the Committee of the Whole by Treasurer Mathew Armstrong it was revealed that Prescott’s challenge was higher on average than other single tiered municipalities. According to Armstrong this means each year a large portion of the taxes they are due remain outstanding. He says they need to address this by starting a collecting process, adding that the Municipal Act provides specific steps that can be taken.
Armstrong finished his presentation by highlighting how Prescott’s predominantly residential makeup means any increase in property taxes is applied to residents and not companies, like it could be regions with more industrial and commercial infrastructure.
