Prescott’s Committee of the Whole was given an update on what can be expected from the newest phase of Brockville General Hospital, when construction finishes.
According to BGH CEO Nick Vlacholias the new wing is 180,000 square feet and five floors. There will be a larger entrance roundabout added, in addition to a secondary entrance off of Pearl Street. The expansion is expected to bring the total number of beds up to 170, an increase of 22. Vlacholias points out that more beds means more jobs for local residents.
Other benefits pointed out during the presentation include grouping of hospital services on one site, enhanced infection control and a focus on an aging population. Vlacholias says one of the most important things is that the expansion will allow them to attract and retain medical professionals.
Construction on the second phase is expected to begin in March and the hospital hopes to have full occupancy by the fall of 2020.
