Earlier this week the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario’s Board of Trustees heard an update on their International Education initiative.
Dave Chaplin, the Principal of Hanley Hall School of Alternative and Continuing Education, made the presentation to the board. He points out that the program has grown since it was created in 2015 and that they are happy with the overall success.
During the 2017-2018 school year there will be 93 students from nine different countries, 22 more than were enrolled last year. According to the school board international students can enrich their language skills while experiencing Canadian culture firsthand. Spanish student Juan Sandin says he likes the way Canadian students learn, with an emphasis on speaking and doing as opposed to studying and writing tests. Ana Mendoza, from Monterey in Mexico, and Leo Li from Beijing were also both on hand to discuss their experiences.
Moving forward the board hopes to develop new partnerships with Vietnam, South Korea, Thailand, Brazil, Columbia, Chile, Germany, Ukraine, Italy and the Czech Republic.
