Regional High School Students to Represent in Toronto

Several local high school students have qualified for a province wide competition in Toronto.

From May 7th to 9th students from across the country, including representatives from Seaway District High School and Brockville Collegiate Institute, will be showing off their technical abilities during skilled trade competitions. Jade Markell, Juliana Barnhartd, Matt McKay, Kendrew Byers and Grace Brooks will represent Seaway District High School in events ranging from team carpentry to job interviewing. William Deschamps is the lone competitor from Brockville College Institute, he will compete in photography.

All of the students qualified for the Skills Ontario Competition after their performance in the Eastern Ontario SKLZ Competition that was held in Cornwall last week. More than 180 students participated in the Eastern Ontario competition and the Upper Canada District School Board says it encourages students to pursue a career in the trades. 19 trades were included in the competition, including small engine repair, aesthetics and cabinet making.
