Prescott Community Grant Applications Forwarded to Council

The Committee of the Whole have finished their recommendations on the 2018 Community Grant Applications.

When the Town of Prescott’s Council next meets they will vote on approving almost $60,000 in grants coming from the 2018 budget. Councillors Teresa Jansman, Frasier Laschinger and Leanne Burton were the working group that reviewed the applications and they said every application was discussed. According to the town the total requested was over $105,000 so not all applications could be accepted in full.

Jansman pointed out that what happens in Prescott, and what would best serve the people in town, were both taken into consideration when they made their suggestions for Council. Some grants that are pending council approval include; $4,800 South Grenville Minor Hockey, $6,800 for the Prescott Figure Skating Club and the St. Lawrence Shakespeare Festival will get $18,000 of their requested $20,000.

Mayor Brett Todd and the Council are also requesting two groups meet with them for further discussion. According to the presentation the Prescott Youth Centre has been approved for $3,500 of the $7,000 they asked for but that is pending a presentation before Council. Branch 97 of the Royal Canadian Legion is also being asked to come present to Council. According to the town’s presentation the legion’s request did not fit the intended purpose of the community grants.
