Prescott Committee of the Whole Vote on Ferry Study

Prescott is moving forward with a study to determine the feasibility of a passenger ferry to Ogdensburg.

Committee of the Whole approved a motion directing CAO Pierre Mercier to apply for grants that would enable a feasibility study to take place. It was also recommended that council approve $15,000 from the Planning Reserve be committed to the cost of getting professional consulting done. The entire process is being estimated at a maximum of $30,000.

According to the town this study was done between Brockville and Morristown when the idea for a ferry was first put forward but they would like to do it again because of the location change. Councillor Ray Young is very opposed to spending the $15,000 and added it is a tough time to be spending money on something like this.

Mayor Brett Todd said he was looking at it as a potential downtown rejuvenation. The vote was passed with only Councillor Young voting against it. Councillor Fraser Laschinger was not in attendance.
