The Town of Prescott is Discussing Changes to their Community Improvement Plan

The Town of Prescott is proposing changes to their Community Improvement Plan.

According to Town Hall the plan was first drafted in 2008 and revised in 2012 but is limited to the downtown core. According to Chief Administrative Officer Pierre Mercier the biggest difference would be expanding the CIP to cover the entire town and not just downtown. The town would like to focus on four districts, which they’re identifying as: Riverwalk, the Industrial Park, Heritage Buildings and Brownfield.

Some of the suggested possible approaches include an interest free loan program up to $10,000 over five years and a tax relief program on a 5-year basis for relief of municipal taxes. Buildings designated as heritage buildings could be eligible for grants that are intended to preserve them.

Mercier says this is not set in stone and they are looking for feedback. A public meeting is expected to be scheduled for around April 18th, with Town Hall providing advanced notice. It is being stressed that this should be considered a first draft.
