The fifth annual Trucking for A Cure event will be happening on September 15th in Prescott.
Transport trucks will start their day at South Grenville District High School. Registration begins at nine that morning. Drivers can enjoy a meal, group photos and the announcement of top “LEAD’ trucks. They will leave Prescott and head up to Brockville, then come back down through King Street to Prescott. This event has been running in Woodstock, Ontario for nine years now. Joanne Mackenzie is the organizer of the event and says she started it in the memory of her aunt, who passed away from cancer.
“Started this in her memory and everything and to date, in eighth years, we’ve donated over 600,000 (dollars). So, we’ve done really well.”
Drivers will decorate their trucks in pink and it costs $75 to enter a truck. The money raised will go to the Canadian Cancer Society. A band will be playing at the high school and there will be a barbecue as well. Mackenzie says any vendors are welcome to sign up for a table and can contact her at 613-803-1711.
Attendees can vote for their favourite decorated truck. Mackenzie adds they encourage people to choose a truck that is really creative in terms of decorations.
“It’s quite an inspirational day when you walk around and you talk to the drivers and the reason that they’re there. This is their way to give back and to show how much they care in the community. It’s quite the day for the drivers as well.”
Admission is free to attend. For the full schedule of events, click here.
