Recent renovations to the Brockville General Hospital’s (BGH) cystoscopy surgical suite have made it one of the safest in the region.
Cystoscopy is a procedure that allows for the examination of a patient’s bladder lining and urethra.
Dr. Michael Fuoco, a Urologist at BGH, says it was a much needed upgrade. He noted the improvements enhance the patient experience and functionality for surgical services staff. Dr. Fuoco explained the suite now boasts the latest technology to perform surgeries effectively and safely.
Renovations included new equipment, such as high-resolution imaging technology and video screens. The room was also expanded to provide the surgical team with more space to move around the operating table.
Dr. Fuoco says the old equipment was outdated, having been in use for nearly 20 years. He noted the new equipment allows staff to see with much more clarity and having clear, reliable images makes surgeries a much smoother process.
Funds for the renovations, totalling $500,000, came from the community through donations to the Brockville & District Hospital Foundation.
