Augusta Fire Rescue is searching for new recruits.
The department is preparing to host its 2021 Spring recruitment class and is looking for anyone who’s interested in becoming a part-time on-call firefighter to give them a shout.
Fire Chief Rob Bowman says they are looking to add up to four new recruits for their on-call team.
“We take them through a bit of the history of our department,” Bowman said. “Some basic knowledge of the department, then we get into actually getting to use the personal protective equipment and safety equipment, so that when they are asked to assist on a fire scene, they’re safe and everyone is able to go home.”
Bowman says positions open up quite frequently with their department, and they’re hoping to get new recruits into some trucks by mid-summer.
He says recruits will be handed all the knowledge they need to assist with any incidents.
“When you get called, your pager will go off, as well as a phone app, then you’ll respond to a fire scene,” he said. “From there, we’ll do what we’re trained to do, and try and help someone in their time of need. Afterward, the firefighters have to make sure all the equipment is ready to go for our next call when they get back to the station.”
You can call the department at 613-348-3455, ext. 202, or you submit an application by April 6th to join the 2021 recruit class.
