The Official Plan for Prescott is a step closer to being finalized.
The town held a special council meeting last week to look at a comprehensive review of the plan, which will help establish the vision and goals for Prescott’s future growth and development for the next 20 years.
The town’s current plan was approved back in 2006, and was last amended in May 2018.
Mayor Brett Todd says the plan will guide how lands will be used, and where the town’s growth should take place.
“The meeting went very well,” Todd said. “We’re not reinventing the wheel here with the plan but we’re tweaking and enhancing it in ways that I think will help us attract new business, and just generally help us build a more sustainable community in the years to come.”
The plan establishes natural, cultural, and recreational features and resources that should be protected and enhanced, and how community services will be planned for the future, such as roads, infrastructure, housing, and parks.
Todd says it also addresses how to support and encourage economic development and investment in the community, through industry, commerce, and tourism.
“The draft of that plan will be coming back to council in May, and then we will discuss it, make additional recommendations with input from our WSP consultants, then it goes back for an input process, and I believe we’re looking at September for final ratification of the document.”
In June, the draft of the plan will be submitted to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing for a 90-day review.
