The Augusta Township Farmers Market is set to get underway, following a two-month delay.
The market’s season was scheduled to begin in April, but due to the province’s stay-at-home order, it was forced to postpone its opening weekend.
The new opening date is June 12.
Volunteer Coordinator Laurie King says the market is vital to helping support local farmers and crafters with getting their products out.
“It gives them more exposure they were not getting because they had to stay home,” King said. “It gives them a place where they can sell their homegrown products, and show people that they are here in Augusta.”
King says there will be 23 vendors selling a mix of handmade crafts, baked goods, and other items.
She says it’s their plan to hold the market every Saturday all through the summer.
“We’ll run until the weather forces us inside again,” King said. “If there’s availability to go back inside for an indoor market, then we will go back to our indoor market.”
King says they’ll be looking to expand the market to more vendors as the season rolls along.
The market will be held in the parking lot of the MERC Hall in Maitland, and runs every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
