Ogdensburg-Prescott International Bridge To See Temporary Overnight Closures Starting Sunday

Essential travellers who use the Ogdensburg-Prescott International Bridge will soon have to find a different way to cross the border from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Starting Sunday, the Ogdensburg Bridge and Port Authority will be closing the bridge overnight to all traffic, including pedestrians, due to construction on the United States span of the bridge.

The overnight closures will be in effect every Sunday-Thursday.

As a result, the Canada Border Services Agency is advising that all commercial drivers and travellers entering or exiting the country use either the Thousand Islands Bridge, or the Seaway International Bridge.

Meanwhile, the port of entry at Prescott will remain open with minimal staffing for security purposes, and in case of an unforeseen emergency.

Drivers are advised that the bridge will be open to essential travellers Friday and Saturdays as well as Canada Day, Independence Day, Labour Day, and Thanksgiving.

The agency is also reminding non-essential travellers that border restrictions are still in place.

The closure is expected to last until October 16.
