The Grenville County OPP Detachment took home first place at this year’s Leeds Grenville Emergency Services Charity Hockey Tournament.
The tournament, held on December 3rd, saw teams of first responders from throughout the community, including Cornwall Paramedic Service, Leeds Grenville Paramedic Service, and North Grenville Fire Service, competing in a for-fun tournament in the Kemptville Municipal Centre.
The tournament raised $1,300 for Boots on the Ground, a Canadian organization of volunteer first responders that run an anonymous helpline for firefighters, paramedics, police and other emergency service workers. The group’s goal is to let people working in these fields speak with people they can relate to, and who know the kinds of struggles they face firsthand.
Police say they enjoyed the event, calling it “a wonderful day on the ice”. “A fun time was had by all,” the OPP detachment says in a Facebook post.
