Prescott councillor docked pay and removed from committee following integrity commissioners report

A Prescott councillor has been docked 15 days pay and removed from a town committee.

Prescott Town Council voted on Monday night to approve the recommendations against Counc. Lee McConnell that came out of a integrity commissioners report.

Integrity Commissioner Tony Fleming reviewed the actions of McConnell when it came to declaring land behind Prescott Town Council as surplus.

McConnell was a member of the town’s Heritage Committee at the time and Fleming wrote in the report that the councilor breached the municipal code of conduct nearly a dozen times.

McConnell was in opposition of the land being declared surplus.

The report claims that included McConnell using his role as a member of the heritage committee to undermine the integrity of the decision-making process of council.

Asked for comment, McConnell didn’t mince words.
“It’s painfully obvious that this is all harassment,” McConnell said, adding the integrity commissioner can’t throw him off council.
McConnell said he has no intention of resigning.
“This has just made me more committed to be a representative of the people and speak up.”
Ultimately, council voted to declare the land surplus in December.
