Port of Johnstown holding open house on Saturday

It will be a day to remember at the Port of Johnstown.

An open house, the first since the COVID-19 pandemic, is taking place at the port on Saturday with everything from a bouncy castle, live entertainment, locomotive rides and a BBQ taking place in support of the local food bank.

While tours of the port have been filled for the event, visitors still have a chance to be added to one through games that will be taking place.

Port Administrative Coordinator Stephanie McVittie says there are lots of people who want to find out more about what goes on there.

“There’s lots of interest in the port and people wonder what we are about and what we do here.”

The festivities run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Built in the early 1930’s, the port manages truck, vessel, and rail shipping and receiving of grains, salt, aggregate, and a variety of project cargo.
