Weekend storms pegged as cause of power outages in Prescott

The stormy weather we saw over the weekend is being blamed for power outages that impacted parts of the town.

Several parts of Prescott saw the lights go off during the day on Sunday before being brought back on in the evening, more outages were then reported Monday morning before it was finally restored.

Rideau St.Lawrence Distribution President and CEO Simon Wu says the high winds and rain in the storms caused tree limbs to make contact with power lines, causing fuses to blow.

He says crews went out to to take care of the fast moving situation.

“They go and trim the trees that are in close proximity to the lines that they suspect caused the outage and then they’ll refuse the transformers so that the power can come back on, then as the winds pick back up again it blows it off.”

Wu adds that you should call the numbers posted on their website if you experience a power outage.
