Grenville County OPP explain how missing person cases are handled

Police say time is of the essence when it comes to searching for a missing person.

Grenville County OPP Constable Dave Holmes tells Moose FM that police receive a lot of missing people reports throughout the year and he says each is taken seriously.

Holmes says the investigation usually begins with the officer who takes the report asking the caller for more information about the missing person.

They then communicate that information with other officers to figure out and coordinate what resources are needed for the search with information then provided to the public.

Holmes says it’s important that no time is wasted so that they can locate and help the missing person.

“If somebody’s not dressed for the weather and they end up wandering they could succumb to frostbite or any other injuries just strictly due to weather.”

Holmes adds there are programs offered by police, including Project Life Saver, to help those who are vulnerable if they become missing.
