MPP Steve Clark says he was as surprised as everyone else to hear that the Upper Canada District School Board may close over a dozen schools by the end of the school year. Clark says the accommodation review process that took place just before he was elected tore communities apart when schools closed. Clark says he hopes that any plan to close schools is rejected by the time the final decision is made early next year. Clark says the issue comes down to the funding formula in Ontario.
The UCDSB is considering the option to close up to 16 schools by the end of the school year and another nine in the future. They say there are 10,000 empty seats in Eastern Ontario.
