UCDSB Trustees approve review process to look at closing schools

The Upper Canada District School Board will move ahead with the public review process to close schools. Trustees approved the Pupil Accommodation Review last night at their meeting. Board Chair Jeff McMillan stated that last night’s meeting wasn’t to close schools, but to start the process of having a conversation about it with parents and school communities. The board says it will gather information and feedback from parents through the Accommodation Review Committees. Currently, the board is faced with nearly 10,000 unused student spaces across the district. Some of the schools slated for possible closure include Benson Public School in Cardinal, Seaway District High School and Iroquois Public School in Iroquois, and Morrisburg Public School. South Edwardsburgh Public School and Maynard Public School are also on the list for a later closure. The Board will make a final decision on March 23rd of next year.
