The Leeds, Grenville, and Lanark District Health Unit say Naloxone kits are now available over the counter for opioid users. Naloxone kits are the best way to treat an opioid overdose. The kits can be picked up at local pharmacies by opioid users, or their family or friends with no need of a doctor’s prescription. The Ministry of Health and Long Term Care made Naloxone more available earlier in 2016 and say that a death occurs every 13 hours in Ontario from an opioid overdose.
