Grenville County OPP has put out a warning to residents to be on guard for emergency telephone scams.
These “Emergency Scams” target senior and vulnerable people by claiming to be a family member or relative in trouble.
Police says the call will be frantic in nature and will play to the emotions of the victim. The person will claim to be in trouble or in desperate need of money to travel, and will then request money to be sent.
The OPP says to watch for key signs like urgency, secrecy, emotional distress, and the request for money during these “emergency scams”.
