Prescott Looking to Establish Twinning Agreement With Shangrao, China

The Town of Prescott is looking to establish a twinning agreement with the city of Shangrao, China, and will be welcoming representatives to PrescottĀ on Saturday, November 26th.
The announcement came Monday night at the Committee of the Whole meeting, and it was revealed that this project has been in the works since 2011.
The purpose of the sister-cities agreement would be to eventually bring investments and new business into Prescott.
Mayor Brett ToddĀ says that this new relationship won’t yield immediate results, but rather the benefits in the long run are the goal.
A presentation to the committee revealed that to establish a business relationship, Chinese customs requires three to four meetings before the parties can be considered “trusted friends”.
Committee will also be allocating $2500 for the visit at the end of the month, with a translator taking up the bulk of that at $1500.
The next step would be a second meeting back in Shangrao, which would see a small group of representatives from Prescott making the travels.
There have been 31 previous twinning agreements between Canada and China, but none to date based on the business relationship that Prescott and Shangrao are looking to establish.
