Grenville County OPP have put out a warning to residents to not be fooled by an “iTunes scam”.
Police have recently received two reports of victims being taken for $5,600.
Calls or texts will be sent to the victim notifying them that they owe back taxes with threats of charges, fines, or deportation following if payment is not made.
To avoid this, victims are told to purchase iTunes cards and then send the scammer the payment code from the back of the card.
The OPP says you will never be asked to make a tax payment with an iTunes cards, and if you are, then it is a scam.
