OPP Launches 2016 Festive R.I.D.E. Campaign

The OPP is focusing on drug related collisions during its Festive R.I.D.E. Campaign this year.

Police say they investigated 65 road collisions last year that were found to be due to drug impaired drivers. So far this year, 59 crashes have happened due to drug impairment.

The OPP says it is trying to dispel the myth that driving while high can’t be detected by police and is a safe alternative to driving while impaired by alcohol. Officers are being trained to recognize the signs of drug impairment.

Police remind drivers that if you see someone that you think is impaired by drugs or alcohol, call 9-1-1 to report them. Police remind drivers that the Festive R.I.D.E. Campaign will continue through the holiday season.
