Impassioned voices across council threw the town behind the Prescott Curling Club’s Petition to the Ontario government, demanding that hydro rates across the province be reassessed.
Council recognized that a hefty expense for many local clubs and organizations is the cost of hydro for their buildings, with the arena the curling club operates out of a prime example. Council also noted the Prescott Legion as another major pillar in the community who had expressed concern about rising hydro rates. They believe these organizations will not be able to keep up with inflation.
Mayor Brett Todd said without hesitation that council must sign the petition to show support.
Todd went further to say that he has heard nothing but excuses and finger pointing from Ontario’s Premier, who Todd says has mismanaged the distribution of hydro in the province.
Council also acknowledged that the town is saving about 10% more by sticking with Rideau St. Lawrence Distribution rather than switching to Hydro One, as prices continue to rise out of control.
