Rideau St. Lawrence Distribution Presents Cheque, Answers Concerns

Rideau St. Lawrence Distribution has presented a cheque for $58,509.14 to Committee of the Whole.

The presentation happened Monday night as a reward incentive for the town switching their street lights over to LED bulbs.

Committee members did not let the Rideau St. Lawrence representatives leave without clarification on rising hydro prices though.

Counsellor Fraser Laschinger noted that over the last three years he has seen a 7% increase to his hydro bill, although representatives said the average yearly since 2012 increase has been around 1%. Recently the Prescott Curling Club gathered names on a petition to protest a 42% increase the their arena’s hydro bill.

Despite this, it was confirmed that with Rideau St. Lawrence Distribution, Prescott is still paying about 10% less than other municipalities on Hydro One. Those savings are equal to about $22.50 per household per month.
