New Year Brings New Carding Policies For Police Services

Carding and street checking policies have changed for police services in Ontario as of the new year.

Police out on patrol can no longer arbitrarily demand identifying information from citizens without consent.

Brockville Police Sergeant Todd Bertrend says these changes to carding comes out of the big cities where groups of people have complained about being profiled during street checks.

Bertrend says there have been no such complaints in Brockville, and that the new policies won’t change how the Brockville Police Service conducts their street checks..

Citizens must still provide their information during a traffic stop or an arrest though.
