A study presented at Brockville General Hospital has shown that cuts to hospital cleaning services across the province may have caused deadly illnesses and infections.
The study was done by the Ontario Council of Hospital Unions and Canadian Union of Public Employees, and says that provincial funding cuts have left hospitals across the province shorthanded on cleaning staff.
The study says hospital acquired illnesses kill 3,200 people province-wide every year.
Abby McIntyre, a spokesperson at Brockville General Hospital, has said that despite this report, hospital cleaning services have increased by 1,000 hours since 2012.
