Capital Projects Budget Tabled

With budget talks nearing completion, the capital projects budget was presented to Committee of the Whole.

The big ticket item for 2017 is the construction of the new fire hall, slated as a $5-million hit.

The town will also be investing $250,000 in a new streeter sweeper and loader.

Town Treasurer Matthew Armstrong says the street sweeper is nearing the end of its life, and the town wants to get out ahead of a potential problem before it’s left with an unusable vehicle.

Armstrong says the town can save a few dollars by investing in a used street sweeper that will still do the job.

The current capital projects budget sits at $6.43-million, but more projects are expected to be added to the list. But with these extra additions, Mayor Brett Todd made it clear that he doesn’t believe the budget will be passed by the proposed deadline. Council members agreed, but said they are fine with missing the self-imposed deadline if it means achieving more in 2017.
