The Brockville police officer who has been charged with possession of a prescription drug for the purpose of trafficking has defended his charge on social media.
27-year Brockville Police veteran Todd Bertrend describes in his post how due to spinal injuries suffered on duty, he became addicted to his prescribed pain killers.
He says once his prescription ran out, he found a way to get more, but defends that he has never sold or given away any pain killers or other drugs.
Bertrend says because of the way the law is structured, the Ottawa Police Service – who conducted the investigation – Â had no choice but to lay the charge.
Bertrend is set to appear in court on February 8th in Ottawa.
