Arena Upgrades Could Be Back In The Budget

It appears accessibility upgrades for the arena could be back on the table for the 2017 budget.

The improvements have been left out of the capital projects budget up until now to allow staff to learn when the province’s deadline was for making the accessibility upgrades.

It was made aware at Committee of the Whole on Monday night that the deadline for upgrading the Leo Boivin Centre was “about two years ago”, according to Prescott’s CAO Pierre Mercier.

Mayor Brett Todd says it is the lack of funding which has delayed the upgrades for so long.

Todd also believes Prescott are not the only municipality in Ontario behind on the improvements, noting an infrastructure deficit in the “billions of dollars” across the province.

Todd supports the idea that improvements need to happen as soon as possible.

The decision to include the upgrades in this year’s budget still needs to go before council at a future meeting.
