Leeds-Grenville MPP Steve Clark is calling on Education Minister Mitzie Hunter again to put a stop to school closures.
Clark made the request yesterday for the second time at Queen’s Park. Twelve schools across Leeds and Grenville are recommended for closure by the Upper Canada District School Board.
Clark says two of those schools are also in two of the fastest growing municipalities in the area. Maynard Public School and Benson Public School are also on the list slated for closure.
Clark wants to see a provincial rural education strategy put into place. He recommends an all-party committee – that would mean bringing together the board and municipal and provincial partners – to help solve the funding problem.
Clark says the constituents of Leeds and Grenville pay their taxes just the same as those who live in urban settings, and should be afforded the same programs and services close to where they live.
Clark is asking to present to the trustees at next Thursday’s delegation board meeting regarding school closures.
