Augusta Township Mayor Doug Malanka has offered free land to the Upper Canada District School Board in a bid to keep Maynard Public School in the community.
Malanka made the offer during his presentation at a special delegation meeting held in Kemptville on Wednesday night.
Malanka says Maynard shouldn’t be closed as it still has room to grow and the UCDSB does not see the potential of the community.
Malanka offered portions of the 13 acres of property owned by the township beside Maynard to the school board with the concept of building a new school that could better fit the needs of the community. He said this would also greatly reduce busing times as students from Maynard would have to travel to Wellington Public School when Maynard closes.
A final decision on school closures takes place March 23rd.
