911 pocket dialing continues to be an issue in Grenville County

There’s still work to be done to get the word out about accidental 911 pocket dialing.

In North Grenville, the costs have gone down by $15,000 in 2016 over 2015 but it still cost North Grenville residents about $35,000.

Grenville County Detachment Commander Inspector June Dobson says that even if police know the call is accidental, they still have to get involved.

North Grenville Police Services Board Vice-Chair Bruce Harrison says the board tried to combat the high costs by sending out pamphlets to educate its residents.

The North Grenville Police Services Board discussed the issue at its meeting yesterday. Members decided to continue looking at ways to educate the public, so that costs can be reduced and so that officers are freed up to answer real calls when there is an actual emergency.
