The Town of Prescott town hall is welcoming a new staff member and she’s a Prescott local.
Yesterday the town formally welcomed Doctor Jacqueline “Jackie” Schoemaker Holmes in to a full time position as Economic Development Officer. Dr. Schoemaker Holmes had been working as the coordinator for the town’s Business Retention and Expansion process, a community-based economic development program with a focus on supporting existing business. That program is ending in August, at which time she will transition to her full-time position.
Mayor Brett Todd says he is extremely happy to bring Jackie on as the town’s first ever full-time Economic Development Officer. He also added that she has already been a tremendous addition to the team at town hall.
Schoemaker Holmes is a Prescott native who trained at the University of British Columbia in sociology while specialising on the practice of empowerment at both the individual and community levels. Some of the doctor’s cross-Canada experience includes; leading a non-profit women’s and girl’s organisation, conducting cutting-edge research in gender relations, digital media studies, immigrant entrepreneurship and over 15 years teaching in higher education. Her work has also been published a number of times including in peer-reviewed academic publications and edited collections, as well as some Canadian newspapers and magazines.
Dr. Schoemaker Holmes says she is truly honoured to accept this position and that it has always been a personal goal to use everything she has learned in service of her home town. She went on to add she could not be more pleased to be Prescott’s Economic Development Officer and plans to continue working very hard for a community that welcomed her back so warmly.
