The Committee of the Whole for the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville is supporting the Eastern Ontario Regional Network’s (EORN) submission of the Cellular Mobile Broadband Project to the federal and provincial governments.
The Eastern Ontario Warden’s Caucus Inc. (EOWC) believe improved mobile broadband and cellular networks are critical to propelling economic growth in all parts of the regional economy including manufacturing, agriculture and transportation. The EORN say they have found gaps in coverage and capacity across the region they say impact public safety, economic growth and quality of life for residents.
The Cellular Mobile Broadband Project is requesting funding from the provincial and federal governments so they can fill perceived gaps in mobile infrastructure and establish a Public Safety Broadcast Network (PSBN) for first responders. The EORN is also suggesting a PSBN pilot project covering Eastern Ontario be developed. The county’s council plan to work as a partner with the EORN and EOWC, the federal and provincial governments and the private sector to improve services for people and businesses in Eastern Ontario.
