Section of Highway 401 closed between Long Sault and Cornwall after fatal collision

Update: The OPP says the section of the highway has reopened. The OPP has released the name of the female driver killed in the collision as 32-year-old Christine Cadieux of Cornwall.

UPDATE: The OPP says on Twitter that the detour now extends from Moulinette Road to Power Dam Road instead of Brookdale.

A two vehicle fatal collision has taken place on Highway 401 near Long Sault.

Stormont Dundas and Glengarry OPP says it’s investigating the incident. It says a section of Highway 401 westbound is closed with detours in place from Moulinette Road to Brookdale Avenue in Cornwall.

The OPP says the incident happened around 7:00am when two vehicles collided on the westbound lanes causing one of the vehicles to rollover.

The OPP says a woman driving one of the vehicles was pronounced dead at the scene, while a male passenger was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries.

There’s no word on when the road will reopen.
