The OPP is reminding drivers to expect the unexpected when it comes to wildlife on highways after a transport crashed this morning.
Grenville County OPP says it was called about the single vehicle collision on Highway 401 earlier today. The OPP says the driver of the transport swerved to avoid a family of ducks on the roadway and lost control of the truck. The transport struck a guide rail and entered a marsh on the south side of the highway.
The 49-year-old man from Vineland wasn’t injured in the crash but has been charged with unsafe move, contrary to the Ontario Highway Traffic Act.
The OPP says if you suddenly have wildlife in your path, stay in control, reduce your speed if it is safe to do so and steer straight. It says that by changing your direction quickly, you increase the risk of losing control or running off the roadway. You also have a greater chance of more damage to your vehicle and suffering injuries.
