The town’s new parking by-law has been passed, but council isn’t finished tweaking it just yet.
At Prescott’s town council meeting this week the Mayor and councillors voted to pass the by-law but made it clear they still have plans to make some amendments. It was pointed out that article 7.7, which makes it against the law to park on the street for more than three hours between 7:00am and 11:00pm unless the vehicle is moved more than 300 meters from where it was first parked, could cause some issues. Examples of how this might create problems include someone forced to park on the street due to driveway repair and businesses in town that rely on street parking for their customers. This article was removed from the by-law before it passed but council intends to revisit the issue with more specific guidelines.
The town also discussed 5th wheel vehicles and how they would be affected by the newly passed by-law. The Mayor and councillors stress that they want an effective, complete set of rules.
