KDH is going smoke free in the new year.
The Kemptville hospital says it is complying with the provincial legislation being rolled out in the new year that states that hospital grounds must be completely smoke free as of January 1st. In the past there has been a designated smoking area on hospital grounds but that area is being eliminated.
KDH Vice-President of Corporate Affairs Lana LeClair says the organization is committed to building healthier communities and they support the smoke-free legislation as it fosters a healthy and safe environment for everyone at KDH.
The new legislation includes any vehicles parked on hospital property. The fine for someone found to be smoking on hospital grounds is $305. KDH, an an employer, also has to ensure people comply with the new legislation. Should it fail, the hospital could also be ticketed and fined.
