Prescott approached about BGH expansion funding

Prescott’s Committee of the Whole heard a presentation from Brockville General Hospital during their meeting this week.

The talk focused on the Community Share Funding Model and whether the town is willing to absorb part of the cost of construction. According to BGH staff the hospital foundation has already committed ten million dollars to the project and they need another 8.5 million from the municipalities. Prescott is being asked for just shy of $950,000 and Prescott usage accounts for 11% of hospital traffic.

Hospital CEO Nick Vlacholias led the presentation and says they are asking to reduce donor fatigue. They believe if they have to ask the community for the rest of the money it would significantly impact other charities. The money would need to be given over a three year period and could be spread out because the project is being funded through Infrastructure Ontario.

Council is expected to reach a decision relatively soon and Vlacholias says sooner is better than later.
