Poets with a connection to the area have a chance to win some money while celebrating almost two centuries of history.
This year marks the Battle of the Windmill’s 180th Anniversary and Friends of the Windmill will be celebrating the milestone with a poetry contest. There will be a junior category for entrants between 12 and 18 years old as well as an adult category for anyone 19 or older. The winning poet from both groups will be awarded $180 and their work will be featured on the Friends of the Windmill promotional bookmark.
To qualify the poem must be about the Battle of the Windmill’s history and the author must live within 50 kilometers of the Windmill Tower itself. Poems can be submitted by emailing a word document to [email protected] before midnight on April 30th. For more information call Jim Devenny at 613-925-5955 or Ross Batstone at 613-925-4835.
