The 2018 Capital and Operational Project Plans for Prescott Have Been Released

The Town of Prescott has finalized the items on their 2018 Capital and Operational Project Plan.

The Capital Project expected expenses are just over $8 million and Treasurer Mathew Armstrong says they will obviously be continuing construction on projects like the Fire Hall and Water Treatment Plant. The construction on Linda Street and Linda Court will be moving forward because they have already approved the tender and moved into the contract stage.

Some of the other capital projects that received approval include replacing one mower at an approximate cost of $35,000 and work to be done in Town Hall. This includes asbestos removal from the 2nd floor at an estimated cost of $295,000 and renovations to the building’s 3rd floor. During last night’s meeting council voted to have staff continue moving municipal offices to the 3rd floor, with a maximum budget of $80,000. Chief Administrative Officer Pierre Mercier says they’re hoping to start the asbestos removal soon and it could take up to six months.

The Operational Projects expenses have been estimated at less than $215,000 and the biggest items are the Recreation Master Plan, Bicycle Ferry Study and Marina Dock Ramps. They will also be installing greenhouses; a project Councillor Leanne Burton calls a fantastic idea. The Public Works Department will also be getting a new high volume compressor, electric jack hammer and garbage bins at Centennial Park. The Fire Department will also be receiving around $30,000 in new equipment.

With respect to the Kriska ballfield Mercier says they town doesn’t own it so this year they won’t be putting any extra money into it. Mayor Brett Todd did point out that the town maintains the property.
