During tax season, you should be extra careful of fraudsters.
That’s the message from Killaloe OPP Constable Catharine Yarmel, who says there types of scams around tax season are endless.
Yarmel says there’s one type of scam in particular that sends you to a website that looks just like Canada Revenue Agency’s website.
Yarmel says that fraudsters can often be aggressive and threaten you over the phone, which the CRA would never do.
If you suspect you’ve come across a scam, you’re encouraged to reach out to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.
