The Township of Edwardsburgh-Cardinal is doing everything they can to prevent illegal burning.
According to the Township’s website staff will be collecting leaves and brush in the built-up areas of Spencerville, Cardinal, Johnstown and New Wexford, where conditional burning is not allowed.
There are some conditions on what staff will pick up. Branches cannot be longer than four feet, trees or shrubs cannot have roots attached, tree limbs or trunks cannot be larger than three inches around and they will only accepted leaves or brush, no construction materials.
The Township also stresses they will only accept 12 bundles per home. The bundles must be smaller than 40 pounds and packaged in clear or paper composting bags that are dry. Pick-up will be on May 1st and 22nd in Cardinal, as well as May 3rd and May 24th in Spencerville, Johnstown and New Wexford. Bags must be on the curb before 7:30am.
The Township adds that brush and leaves will be accepted for free at the Scott Road Transfer Station during May. Anyone with questions can contact Road Superintendent with the Township at 613-657-4606.
