MPP Clark Calls On Feds To Provide More Clarity On COVID-19 Vaccines

The MPP for Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes is calling out the Federal government for what he describes as a lack of clarity in the country’s vaccination process.

Steve Clark took time Monday to commend the local health unit for its work vaccinating residents, and the province for opening t’s COVID-19 online booking portal.

However, Clark says while he’s happy with the local, and provincial response to the vaccine rollout, he’s far less enthused about the work being done Federally.

“We are ramping up the vaccination situation in Ontario, but at the same time a lot of the questions I’m getting as an MPP, I cannot answer because we need clarity from the Federal government on what’s going on with vaccine distribution for our province,” Clark said.

Clark isn’t the first member of the Ontario Conservatives to call out the Federal government.

On Friday, House Speaker Paul Calandra called on Ottawa for more information on how many of the AstraZeneca and Janssen doses Ontario is getting.

“In Ontario, we’re vaccinating over 40,000 people per day,” Clark said. “The reality is that we have the capacity to do 170,000 per day, so what we need is a steady supply.”

Meanwhile, Clark is encouraging all eligible residents to take advantage of both the provincial booking portal, and booking through the health unit.

Clark says he’s just hoping that there’s more information about vaccines coming from Ottawa sooner rather than later.

“It’s great news we now have four different types of vaccines but we have no idea how much AstraZeneca we are getting,” he said. “I have gotten zero information from the Federal government about the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, and we really need to have these questions answered.”
