Mayor Brett Todd Addresses Missing Benches On King Street

If you’ve been wondering what’s become of the benches along King Street, you’re not alone.

The town of Prescott is addressing the recent disappearance of the benches, after residents voiced their concerns on social media over the weekend that the removal had caught some people off guard.

However, according to town officials, the removal had nothing to do with COVID-19.

Mayor Brett Todd says it’s all a part of the plan for downtown rejuvenation.

“All new benches, garbage receptacles, new planters – which look absolutely fantastic and it’s going to be great to get those filled with some nice flowers this summer, and there will be some new bike racks as well,” Mayor Todd said. “So, it’s all part of the overall effort to revitalize King Street as best we can.”

Todd says while there have been some delays due to the recent cold weather, they’ve tried to make the transition as brief as possible.

He’s asking residents to be patient.

“Part of the issue is that everyone wants stuff done immediately, and I get it because we’ve had some nice weather,” Mayor Todd said. “You have to realize as well, we just had a snowstorm a few days ago and we’re still in April here. We’re just getting everything ready for the Spring and Summer.”

According to town officials, the new benches will be installed at some point this week.
